An Application
Absalom and Ahithophel had made horrendously prideful choices in rebellion against God (since God had personally chosen David as king) and we see in 2SA 17:14 they had both been demoted to be used as pawns by God now. Also in 2SA 17:14, we see an example of God protecting Hushai when he (intentionally) gave bad advice to a bad person.

In 2SA 17:23 don't feel sorry for Ahithophel, for it was his idea to blatantly disrespect God in public in 2SA 16:21, which was direct defiance of LEV 18:8.
